About The Position

This is an entry-level career opportunity in the healthcare/education field.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• One-year experience in OPWDD field required
• Complete (within 90 days of hire) and maintain required training in SCIP (Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention) Restrictive Certification, CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation), First Aid, and AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
• Obtain (within 180 days of hire) and maintain AMAP (Approved Medication Administration Personnel)
• The ability to assist with lifting and transferring a person
• Ability to communicate and understand in English; both verbally and in writing
• Clean valid NYS driver’s license
• Ability to apply common sense understanding, to carry out detailed written or oral instruction
• Ability to deal with practical problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to coach and counsel, interpret and advise, and the ability to develop and present to professional forums

Nice To Haves

• Two (2) years of ACLD experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Help program participants achieve/exceed their personal goals
• Provide structure and emotional support
• Assist in resolving behavioral issues
• Help people supported with personal hygiene
• Complete detailed, accurate documentation
• Transport the people supported to and from volunteer and pre-vocational activities using Agency vehicles
