About The Position

Our client is seeking a Lead Datacomm Installation Technician to support network infrastructure and low-voltage projects across the Greater Hampton Roads and Richmond areas. This is a hands-on, field-based role where you'll lead installation crews, manage project execution, and ensure structured cabling systems are installed to the highest quality standards. You'll serve as the primary field resource for project success while helping develop junior technicians.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of structured cabling installation and troubleshooting experience
  • 3+ years leading installation crews and managing job sites
  • Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optic cabling systems
  • Patch panels, 110/66 blocks, and multi-pair copper systems
  • Network racks, cabinets, ladder rack systems
  • Grounding and bonding practices
  • Ability to read blueprints and construction drawings
  • Familiarity with commercial construction environments
  • Basic computer and networking knowledge
  • Own basic industry tools
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass a background check and become DCJS licensed
  • Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and construction sites
  • Ability to safely use power tools and testing equipment
  • Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing priorities, and meet project deadlines
  • Strong communication and leadership skills

Nice To Haves

  • BICSI Installer, Technician, Panduit, Ortronics, or equivalent industry certifications
  • Experience with audio/video, access control, or surveillance systems

Responsibilities

  • Lead and complete structured cabling installations from start to finish
  • Manage field crews and coordinate daily project activities
  • Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot copper and fiber cabling systems
  • Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and project specifications
  • Build and install network racks, cabinets, ladder rack systems, and cable pathways
  • Perform grounding, bonding, labeling, testing, and documentation of installed systems
  • Communicate with project managers, office staff, clients, and other trades
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and according to quality standards
  • Train and mentor junior technicians
  • Travel locally to job sites as needed
