About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Building Custodian to join our team at Hiawatha Elementary. This full-time position is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing high-quality custodial services during the day shift.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous custodial or janitorial experience, preferably in an educational setting.
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and standard custodial procedures.
Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Ability to safely operate custodial equipment and follow established safety procedures.
Basic computer and technology skills, including the ability to access and process electronic work orders through the districts work ticket/work order system.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards.
Good communication skills and the ability to work well with a diverse group of individuals.
Reliable and punctual, with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
Ability to pass background checks and comply with school district regulations.

Responsibilities

Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of classrooms, restrooms, hallways, cafeteria, and common areas to ensure a clean and hygienic environment.
Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors; dust and polish furniture and fixtures.
Empty trash receptacles and recycle bins, ensuring proper disposal of waste.
Clean and sanitize restrooms, ensuring supplies are stocked and areas are well-maintained.
Assist with the setup and breakdown of furniture for school events and activities.
Report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for all.
Assist grounds and maintenance with seasonal snow removal as needed.
Work collaboratively with school staff and administration to address cleaning needs and special requests.
Maintain custodial equipment and supplies, ensuring they are in good working condition and properly stored.
Adhere to all school policies and procedures, including those related to health and safety.
