About The Position

Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive program of guidance to the assigned schools. Supervise a proactive developmental guidance program to encourage all students to maximize personal growth and development. Serve as a leader to assist in coordinating academic information and all counseling services.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in school counseling
  • Valid Texas School Counselor Certification
  • Has a minimum of 3 years elementary counseling experience
  • Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
  • Knowledge of appropriate counselor interventions for student achievement and behavior
  • Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff
  • Knowledge of district guidelines pertinent to counseling services
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Willingness to serve in a leadership capacity, coordinating the work of colleagues
  • Well organized and able to manage multiple responsibilities and tasks on time
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of elementary teaching experience

Responsibilities

  • Work side-by-side with campus and district administrators in evaluating student data in order for the counseling department to support ALL students in scholastic success; behavior and emotional support that may be a barrier with a positive school experience; and guide students in planning for college and career readiness.
  • Monitors and evaluates all Elementary campus data to determine appropriate support that the counseling department can provide to boost areas applicable to the counselor’s responsibilities and roles.
  • Coordinates the monitoring of students experiencing truancy, failures, and behavioral issues and work with the counseling team to develop a plan of intervention
  • Works with the Director for Counseling Services and serve as a liaison for counselors in duties, training, and communication from campus to district
  • Performs as a student advocate, leader, collaborator, and systems change agent
  • Communicates Elementary campus challenges and works towards solutions
  • Assist with coordinating the activities of the counseling department, including scheduling school day and evening events for communicating important information to students and parents
  • Works with all Elementary counselors to coordinate the transition activities of students from elementary to middle school in collaboration with the middle school counselors
  • Provide support and coordinates the transition activities of students enrolled in DAEP
  • Stays abreast of current legislative changes and implementation
  • Advocate for a school environment that acknowledges and respects diversity and positive school climate
  • Pursue professional development activities that align with district goals and initiatives and current professional research.
  • Other related duties as assigned
