About The Position

Tigg's Canteen Services is hiring a permanent, full-time Lead Cook at the Berrien County Jail in St. Joseph, Michigan. The Lead Cook helps keep daily kitchen operations running smoothly by leading the kitchen team and assisting with meal preparation and service. The role requires following instructions, collaborating with others, and maintaining high standards of food preparation and cleanliness in a structured correctional facility. Previous correctional food service experience is not required; the company is willing to train a suitable candidate.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to read and follow recipes and written instructions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Dependable and able to work well as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work weekends and holidays.
• Flexibility to work varying shifts between 8:30 a.m. and 6:15 p.m.
• Must be able to obtain clearance approval to enter the facility.

Nice To Haves

• Previous kitchen or food service experience is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Lead, direct, and assist inmates within the kitchen.
• Prepare, bake, and cook meals according to company recipes.
• Assist with meal planning and preparation.
• Follow company policies, procedures, and food safety standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen.
• Assist with kitchen cleanup and other daily duties.
• Work effectively within a structured correctional facility.
