About The Position

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is hiring a Lead Commercial Lines Underwriter to evaluate, select, and price commercial lines business and support the performance and profitability of the portfolio. The role works closely with distribution partners and agency relationships, using underwriting judgment and market awareness to support thoughtful growth within assigned authority. The position may be based in Plano, Texas, or Rosemont, Illinois, and follows a hybrid schedule of two remote days and three in-office days.

Requirements

At least 5 years of underwriting experience in Property, General Liability, Commercial Auto, and Workers Compensation.
Strong understanding of underwriting practices, risk assessment, and policy structures.
Familiarity with insurance policy language and coverage forms.
Solid understanding of using data to support underwriting decisions.
Strong time management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
Self-motivation, attention to detail, and accountability.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Professional designations such as AU or CPCU.

Responsibilities

Evaluate, select, and price new and renewal business in alignment with underwriting standards and assigned authority.
Support the performance and profitability of the commercial lines portfolio.
Partner with Distribution to support territory production and profitability.
Work with distribution partners and agency relationships, applying underwriting judgment and market awareness to support thoughtful growth.
Travel to key agency partners, participate in virtual meetings, and attend industry events as needed.
