About The Position

The Lead Engineer is a specialist-level role in the Engineering classification hierarchy. The position solves complex problems, manages work, and provides leadership in engineering areas of specialization with minimal supervision and increased latitude for unreviewed work. The Lead Engineer serves in lead roles, guides others, and is expected to have advanced skills and work independently. The role provides Civil-Structural engineering and technical expertise in identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex problems, including assessing long-term results and system-wide impacts. It plans, organizes, estimates, schedules, and monitors work; prepares technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches; conducts complex engineering studies and projects; and recommends process enhancements and standards. The Lead Engineer keeps current with new developments, technologies, procedures, and equipment, coordinates work with others, maintains accurate records, communicates effectively, and coaches and mentors engineering and non-degreed engineering professionals. This is a hybrid position. After onboarding, work is performed from remote and onsite locations, with an average expectation of three full workdays per regular workweek at an assigned Duke Energy facility. Employees must live within a reasonable commute of their designated facility, no more than 50 miles one way. Outages or project support may require more frequent power-plant visits. The base location is in the Carolinas, in the Charlotte or Raleigh area, with possible flexibility within other Duke Energy service areas. Travel is 5–15%. The work takes place in a power-plant environment with exposure to hot and cold temperatures, humidity, noise, dust, fumes, confined spaces, heights, and pressurized, rotating, and energized equipment. Base hours are day shift, 10 hours per day, four days per week, or an alternate Fridays-off schedule. Rarely, weekends, holidays, overtime, and callouts may be needed to support outages or emergent problems. Relocation assistance is not provided. Visa sponsorship is not available; applicants must be able to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship now or in the future.
