About The Position

The Lead Certified Surgical Technologists are individuals with specialized education who function as members of the surgical team in the role of scrub person. They are responsible for meeting the requirements of the job description and functioning successfully in the role of staff CST. This role also involves acting as a resource for specialty services, providing support to clinical staff, and sharing knowledge and experiences. The Lead CST works collaboratively with the respective service care coordinator RN to ensure appropriate supplies, equipment, and staffing are available for procedures. They also develop scrub protocols and training expectations for specialty services, serve as a role model for professional behavior, and engage staff in teamwork and the growth of specialty services. Collaboration with surgeons on procedure needs and preparation, as well as with other departments such as SPD, storeroom, purchasing, biomedical, and radiology, is essential. The role requires demonstrating knowledge of ethical care, patients’ rights, and supporting a culture of safety.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required.
  • Completion of a certified Surgical Technologist program required.
  • Passing a Surgical Technologist Certification Exam required.
  • If not certified upon hire, certification is required within one year of hire date.
  • Continuation of certification by attending seminars, workshops and continuing education programs accepted by the Surgical Technologist Organization.

  • Presents self as role model for professional behavior and demonstrates ability to engage staff and surgical teamwork.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of ethical care, patients’ rights and supports culture of safety through verbalization of safety concerns.
