About The Position

For 40 years, Commonwealth Home Design has earned an award-winning reputation serving Northern Virginia homeowners through integrated architecture, design, and construction - delivering extraordinary kitchens, bathrooms, major additions, and whole-house remodels. We’re looking for a Lead Carpenter who can take ownership of projects in the field and see them through successfully. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can lead trades, coordinate field operations, manage schedules, communicate confidently with clients, and personally step in when needed to keep projects moving and craftsmanship standards high.

Requirements

  • Experience managing residential remodeling or construction projects in the field
  • Strong all-around remodeling experience, including framing, cabinetry, trim work, doors/windows, drywall, tile, paint, and general finish work
  • Ability to recognize when work is not being installed correctly, troubleshoot issues in the field, and step in hands-on when needed to keep projects progressing
  • Ability to manage subcontractors and crews and maintain accountability on site
  • Professional communication skills with clients, vendors, and coworkers
  • Strong organization and follow-through in a fast-moving environment
  • Pride in delivering high-quality work and creating a positive client experience

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day field operations to keep projects on schedule, on budget, and built to a high standard while participating in the construction of the project.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, trades, deliveries, inspections, and site logistics
  • Perform and oversee hands-on work across all phases of residential remodeling, including leveling floors, framing, cabinetry, trim work, doors/windows, drywall, tile, paint, punch work, and general jobsite tasks as needed
  • Verify that framing, cabinetry, finishes, windows/doors, and other key installations are completed correctly and to a high standard
  • Communicate proactively with clients, providing updates and managing expectations throughout the project
  • Work closely with internal teams on schedules, budgets, change orders, labor needs, and project success
