Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a related field and completion of an accredited program in cardiac and vascular ultrasound or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) and Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) OR with Cardiovascular Credentialing International as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) and Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS).
  • Must possess one cardiac credential and one vascular credential. Candidate may apply with one credential (cardiac or vascular) and must obtain the second credential within one year of hire.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Must maintain active registry status.
  • Must be a Cardiac & Vascular Technologist for at least three to five years.
  • For current employees: Must have achieved an Annual Focus Review rating of 3 or better for the last three years preceding.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

  • Cardiac & Vascular Technologist for at least five years with experience in a supervisory role.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of NYU policies and protocols and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
  • Performs all cardiac ultrasound studies including echocardiograms, treadmill stress echocardiograms, pharmacological stress echocardiograms, echocardiograms with ultrasound enhancing agents and agitated saline studies.
  • Performs all vascular ultrasound studies including carotid duplex, upper and lower extremity venous and arterial duplex studies, abdominal aortic studies, renal artery duplex studies, iliocaval duplex studies, mesenteric duplex studies, plethysmography, and ankle-brachial index studies.
  • Ensures all studies adhere to NYU protocols as well as IAC and ACR standards.
  • Provides for patient comfort and interacts with patients by identifying self, verifying identity, explaining procedures and equipment, and ensuring patient privacy.
  • Creates a preliminary report based on scan completion, documents scans according to departmental procedures, and enters, maintains, and records all pertinent patient data, using good judgment to determine if the procedure is sufficient for diagnosis.
  • Utilizes highly technical equipment to perform ultrasound studies.
  • Alerts medical staff to abnormalities requiring immediate attention.
  • Compares present echovascular studies to previous studies to monitor changes.
  • Maintains accreditation compliance and documentation (IAC or ACR) and submits appropriate studies for accreditation applications.
  • Performs duties that may require lifting, pushing, or moving patients and equipment over 150 pounds, with or without assistive devices.
  • Carries out assignments within a realistic time frame.
  • Provides leadership to the echovascular lab by orienting, mentoring, educating, and validating the competency of team members to ensure quality testing with accuracy, compassion, respect, and efficiency.
  • Responsible for the echovascular lab's preventative maintenance and repair of all equipment.
  • Schedules and leads quarterly Quality Assurance meetings with all practice staff.
  • Provides training to echovascular technologists when necessary.
  • Works with practice management and regional supervisors in identifying staffing gaps.
  • Provides schedule oversight and coordinates staffing coverage with practice management and regional supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
