About The Position

The Lead Inspector is responsible to the Chief Inspector for the determination of the airworthiness of assigned work. This role involves assisting, supervising, and directing all personnel assigned to the inspection department. The Lead Inspector ensures that all inspections are properly performed and that all completed work is released to the customer with the correct inspection records, reports, and forms properly executed. They are responsible for maintaining a file system for work orders and inspection forms, performing periodic checks and calibration of inspection tools and precision test equipment, and ensuring that shelf-life items are properly controlled and removed from service when expired. The Lead Inspector must be properly certificated in accordance with FAR Part 65 and can delegate duties in their absence, though they remain ultimately responsible. They also perform special assignments and projects as directed by the Chief Inspector.

Requirements

  • High School/GED
  • At least 8 years of experience or greater in area of responsibility
  • 5 years or more experience as an aircraft A&P Mechanic
  • Several years’ prior Inspector work experience with quality systems that meet FAA requirements
  • Experience working with and interpreting precision measurement instruments
  • Advanced Knowledge of all possible tasks and responsibilities within their technical area
  • Strong understanding of External Regulations and Functional Work Standards that affect Technical Requirements and Outputs
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses, repairs and maintenance
  • Quality Control Analysis — Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance
  • Troubleshooting — Identify the causes of operating errors and determine the appropriate solution
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
  • Knowledge of FAA requirements for aircraft maintenance procedures
  • Ability to interpret and comprehend manufacturer and FAA approved work package instructions
  • Ability to inspect and install parts/components
  • Ability to work in a safe professional manner adhering to all regulatory requirements including OSHA, EPA, State and Federal regulations
  • Must have the ability to wear a respirator as per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 'Respirator Protection' regulations with no restrictions that would prevent the proper use and/or seal of the respirator

Responsibilities

  • Assist, supervise, and direct all personnel assigned to the inspection department.
  • Ascertain that all inspections are properly performed and all completed work is released to the customer.
  • Ensure proper inspection records, reports, and forms are used and properly executed.
  • Collect and maintain a file on work orders and inspection forms.
  • Make periodic checks on all inspection tools and calibrate precision test equipment.
  • Develop and maintain a system for keeping records of checks and calibration of inspection tools and precision test equipment.
  • Ensure the proper execution of Forms FAA 337 and the maintenance release pertinent to all items released to service.
  • Perform preliminary, hidden damage, inspection continuity, and final inspection of all items.
  • Ensure proper tagging and identification of all parts.
  • Ensure rejected and unserviceable parts are returned to the customer or properly disposed of.
  • Ensure that metallurgical tests are performed on items when necessary.
  • Ensure that all materials subject to shelf life are properly controlled, inspected, and removed from service when expired.
  • Perform special assignments and projects, as directed by the Chief Inspector.
