The AI Application / Senior Software Engineer designs, builds, deploys and supports lightweight applications for Skanska USA Building business use cases where existing enterprise tools or commercial solutions do not fit. Working within the Digital team and in close partnership with IT architecture, information security and business stakeholders, the engineer translates ambiguous business needs into scoped, shippable solutions; uses AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while rigorously reviewing, testing and hardening AI-generated code for correctness, security and maintainability; and establishes the practical development, deployment, documentation and code review standards that govern custom software at USB. The role advises on build-versus-configure decisions — including sound judgment about when not to build custom software — defines approved deployment paths with architecture and security partners (Azure-first options, rapid application platforms, infrastructure as code and CI/CD), and supports citizen developers with guardrails and code review. The job exists because USB has business needs that commercial and configured platforms do not address, and needs an accountable, standards-driven engineering capability to meet them safely and sustainably.

Requirements

7+ years of experience with professional software development including production applications owned end to end
7+ years of experience using at least one modern application stack (Python/TypeScript)
5+ years of experience with data modeling and application security fundamentals
3+ years of experience using Azure PaaS
2+ years of experience with hands-on use of AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Github, Copilot, Codex, or Cursor
2+ years of experience reviewing and testing AI-generated code for correctness, security, and maintainability

Responsibilities

Designs, builds, deploys and supports lightweight applications for Skanska USA Building business use cases where existing enterprise tools or commercial solutions do not fit.
Translates ambiguous business needs into scoped, shippable solutions.
Uses AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while rigorously reviewing, testing and hardening AI-generated code for correctness, security and maintainability.
Establishes the practical development, deployment, documentation and code review standards that govern custom software at USB.

Defines approved deployment paths with architecture and security partners (Azure-first options, rapid application platforms, infrastructure as code and CI/CD).
Supports citizen developers with guardrails and code review.
