About The Position

The AI Application Engineer will design, build, and deploy intelligent systems powered by machine learning and large language models (LLMs), helping increase AI adoption in engineering workflows. The role involves identifying workflow gaps, evaluating enterprise AI solutions available across Apple, and architecting custom solutions when existing platforms do not meet the need. Working at the intersection of applied AI and software engineering, the engineer will translate research into practical, scalable tools and take ideas from feasibility studies and rapid prototypes through production-ready solutions with intuitive, high-quality user experiences. The work supports engineering design and system integration for Apple hardware programs, including iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods, and Vision Pro, in close collaboration with sensing hardware engineering.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree.
• At least 10 years of relevant industry experience.
• Strong understanding of generative AI models, particularly large language models (LLMs).
• Proficiency in Python.
• Excellent software engineering skills, including modular and object-oriented design methodology and general software best practices.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams and drive decision-making under uncertainty.
• Self-driven, with strong problem-solving skills and a passion for tackling new challenges in ambiguous, early-stage environments.

Nice To Haves

• Five or more years of software development experience, including two or more years of hands-on experience developing AI-powered applications.
• Experience designing and deploying agentic AI systems.
• Experience adopting and integrating enterprise AI platforms across teams.
• Background in sensing systems such as IMUs, pressure sensors, magnetic sensors, signal processing, or sensor fusion, or in hardware system integration.
• Experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn.
• Demonstrated ability to bring state-of-the-art AI research into production systems.
• Hands-on experience with cloud services and containerization technologies.
• Experience building web or native user interfaces.
• Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
