About The Position

The Layout Inspector's mission is to verify specified dimensional measurements on parts to ensure compliance with PCC and industry standards, and customer specifications. This is achieved using automated coordinate measuring machines (CMM) or conventional measuring devices. The role also involves inspecting new and revised tools and fixtures for compliance with specifications, calibrating and adjusting precision measuring devices, and preparing layout and calibration documentation.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of PCC training courses or their equivalent: MTH-20v Fundamentals of Arithmetic, MTh-50v Beginning Algebra (applied), DR-29v Beginning Blueprint Reading & Sketching, CS-122 Computer Applications, DR-35 Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance, MT-36v Visual Inspection for Certification, MT-37v Dimensional Inspection for Certification, WR-21 Written Communication Skills, DR-199 Advanced Geometric Dimensioning & Toleracing/Aerospace Prints, MTH-80v/MTH 85v Technical Math I & II, MT-211,212,213 Layout I,II & III.
  • Ability to identify and use mechanical measuring devices including: Rotary Tables, Scientific Calculators, Pi Tapes, Optical Comparator, Audio Sensor Probes, Gage Pins, Trammel Rods, Precision Squares, Box Parallel, Inside Center Locator, Outside Center Locator, French Curves, Parallel Bars, Vernier Calipers, Dial Calipers, Outside Micrometer, Inside Micrometer, Taper Gauges, Height Gauges, Planer Gauges, Radius Gauge, Sine Plate Bars, 1,2,3 blocks, V-Block, Telescope Gauges, Depth Micrometers, Gauge Blocks, Dial Indicator, Universal Right Angle Irons, Scales, Universal Bevel Protractor, Granite Surface Plate, Adjustable parallel Bars.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations through Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry.
  • Ability to conceptualize abstract geometric relationships.
  • Applied understanding of math beyond trigonometry preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow complex, technical specifications found in Technique cards, Quality Control manuals and Quality Control instructions.
  • Thorough knowledge of and competence in interpreting blueprints.
  • Solid understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
  • Ability to map indications and sketch part features and segments neatly and accurately.

  • Working knowledge of investment casting processes.

Responsibilities

  • Position, measure and inspect specified dimensional features of castings, wax patterns, fixtures, and tools to assure compliance with dimensional specifications.
  • Identify and interpret casting, wax pattern, fixture, dies and tool dimensions on blueprints.
  • Construct three-dimensional plane coordinates for measurement reference as defined on blueprints.
  • Complete a variety of mathematical calculations, including technical math, analytic geometry and trigonometry.
  • Measure specified dimensions using a wide variety of devices and record manually or enter into computerized storage.
  • Input dimensional coordinates into CMM for computerized measurement recording (at LPC).
  • Compare measurements to customer requirements, PCC and industry standards.
  • Prepare and review layout reports, describing measurements taken as needed.
  • Evaluate and analyze measurement data with engineering departments.
  • Review vendor inspection techniques to verify accuracy and completeness of vendor layout reports and calibrations.
  • Conduct source inspections at tooling and fixture vendors.
  • Calibrate and adjust measuring devices, fixtures and gauges on a scheduled basis.
  • Maintain complete and accurate calibration records on dimensional measuring devices as required by PCC and customers specifications.
  • Calibrate and adjust fixtures.
  • Calibrate and adjust precision measuring tools.
  • Calibrate and adjust gauges (at LSBO & SSBO only).
  • Act as representative of PCC in customer and government audits of calibration program.
  • Maintain completed and accurate records of calibration results.
  • Take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.
  • Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools.
  • Identify and report safety problems.
  • Complete accurate logs and records.
  • Meet all production and quality standards.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
