About The Position

ABC Home & Commercial Services is seeking a Lawn Maintenance Trainer & Crew Leader. This is a full-time position responsible for training new employees in landscape maintenance while also leading a crew and ensuring high-quality service. The role involves coaching, mentoring, and evaluating new team members on company policies, procedures, and standards. The trainer will report progress to Service Managers and determine when new employees are ready to join production crews. This is an active, working role where the trainer acts as the crew leader on a designated training route.

Requirements

  • Must hold a valid driver's license with an issue date of at least five years prior to the date of this application.
  • Previous Lawn Maintenance experience required (5 years minimum).
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is required.
  • Must be proficient in the operation of all lawn maintenance equipment and become proficient with any new equipment needed for lawn maintenance.
  • Excellent communicator both written and verbally.
  • Coach type mentality with the ability to be patient and teach.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, work under pressure and still maintain good composure.
  • Experience working on high volume routes, providing high quality service, and meeting the daily deadlines of your service route.
  • Ability to identify the fine details in landscape maintenance that spotlight what quality service is.
  • Dependable and self-motivated with desire to learn, grow and be part of a developing team all year long.
  • Ability to use and navigate electronic tablet/phone, email, text, etc.
  • Ability to walk for long periods of time in extreme temperatures.
  • Work outdoors for extensive periods of time.
  • Able to work long hours during our peak season.
  • Climb a ladder up to 10 feet in height.
  • Repetitive walking, lifting, twisting, pulling, pushing, bending, squatting, crouching, kneeling and overhead reaching.
  • Lifting or carrying 50-80 lbs. may be required.
  • Ability to carry a 15 lb. backpack repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Properly Operate push mowers, riders, hedge trimmer, etc.
  • Must be able to distinguish plants by size, shape and color.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of five consecutive (current and most recent) years of verifiable good driving history.
  • Any DWI/DUI within the past four years may impact eligibility for employment and may result in withdrawal of a conditional offer.

Responsibilities

  • Providing high quality landscape maintenance training for new employees.
  • Leading a crew and carrying the responsibility and accountability of the team’s performance.
  • Coaching and mentoring new employees on ABC policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Communicating directly with Service Managers about new employee performance and progress.
  • Determining when a new employee has executed all training requirements to ABC standards before being released to a production crew.
  • Ensuring new employees understand and are able to operate the customer information and schedule platform.
  • Coaching on reading all notes added to route to make sure that additional and special instructions are followed.
  • Training on the proper use of personal protective equipment required by ABC Safety Standards.
  • Instructing new crew members in the proper way of handling mowing equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Tracking recommended time of operation for each piece of equipment for new employees.
  • Ensuring mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, and all other lawn maintenance work is done in a professional manner.
  • Training to follow the Quality Counts Program maximizing output of the team through motivation and participation.
  • Directing workflow and work performed by other members of the crew ensuring that employees understand teamwork and even distribution of the workload.
  • Training in how to become familiar with service contracts and executes above and beyond customer expectations.
  • Training to perform daily routine equipment checks (greasing, oil checks, blade checks/sharpening, reporting malfunctions).
  • Ensuring that all equipment needed for work is in working order daily, loaded and secured properly prior to leaving the shop.
  • Performing Daily Vehicle and Trailer Inspections.
  • Scheduling for repairs of non-urgent items on the “Maintain X” app.
  • Immediately reporting any damage to a customer’s property to Crew Chief and Service Manager.
  • Training to perform a thorough property walk before leaving the customer’s property to inspect the work area.
  • Training for expected daily route goals and informing Service Manager of all resets, skipped services, work not completed and work projected to not be completed, daily by 3:30PM.
  • Inspecting all equipment when moved to a new trailer.
  • Training how to inspect vehicles and trailers daily and what the procedure is for when new equipment, truck or trailer is assigned.
  • Responsible for knowing and following all company and department policies and protocols, including the PTO policy.
  • Attending required department meetings and company or vendor training as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
