About The Position

As a self-regulatory organization, the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) takes its responsibility of setting high-quality regulatory and investment industry standards seriously, while protecting investors and supporting healthy capital markets in Canada. The Law Student will be an integral part of CIRO’s Regulatory team in the Montreal Office and support it in its various activities.

Requirements

  • Law school degree (undergraduate or graduate), completed or in progress
  • Knowledge of capital markets regulation or completion of courses on this topic
  • Proficiency in both official languages of Canada (French and English) is required
  • Full fluency in English is required

  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks appropriately and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Research case law relating to disciplinary matters
  • Monitor legislative changes pertaining to the investment and mutual fund industries
  • Monitor financial news and prepare summaries of relevant information
  • Design work tools to help the Regulatory team in its work
  • Support the national background check program
  • Support teams involved in transferring and performing mutual fund responsibilities at CIRO
  • All other related tasks
