About The Position

Canadian Blood Services is looking for two (2) Articling Students (Student at Law) to join our Legal Division on a full-time, contract basis starting in the Summer of 2027. The Legal Division is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by providing legal advice and guidance. In this role, you will be providing legal support to the Legal Division at Canadian Blood Services through support for ongoing projects, legal research, legislative and regulatory surveillance, and legal analysis. The Legal Division values mentorship and is invested in the educational experience of its articling students. You will work under the supervision of Legal Counsel, with formal and informal feedback opportunities while gaining exposure to various areas of law, including health, privacy, compliance, litigation, business, and labour and employment.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Common Law Program at a recognized Canadian academic institution.
  • Completion of licensing examinations prior to commencing articling,
  • Eligible to be registered in the Law Society of Ontario's Licensing Process and eligible to commence articling in the 2027-2028 Licensing Cycle with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Strong legal research skills, statutory analysis skills and computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of legal research materials, including legal web resources, and the ability to locate updated statutes and regulations is essential.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English are required.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Quicklaw is an asset.
  • Ability to research and track legal developments in foreign jurisdictions is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Leveraging strong legal research and analysis skills to perform legal research and prepare legal memoranda for the Legal Division. Areas of law include health; regulatory; corporate/commercial; privacy; torts; employment and administrative law.
  • Utilizing legal analysis skills to monitor and assess federal, provincial, and territorial statutes, regulations, and case law.
  • Monitor and communicate updates on national and international legal developments relevant to Canadian Blood Services.
  • Provide support for ongoing projects in the Legal Division.
  • Utilizing your interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with team members and other divisions.
