About The Position

The Children's Law Center (CLC) is a nonprofit legal services organization representing children in custody, visitation, guardianship, paternity, family offense, and related child protective proceedings in New York Family Courts and Integrated Domestic Violence Parts of the New York Supreme Court, including appeals. CLC represents approximately 5,000 children annually in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. Its mission is to empower clients, prevent trauma, and promote wellbeing. Working closely with attorneys on CLC’s writing and appellate team, a law student intern will develop legal research and writing skills and learn about family law and the role of the attorney for the child. Activities may include legal research; digesting school, medical, and forensic records; drafting legal documents such as memoranda of law, motions, and sections of written trial summations and appellate briefs; and conducting legal and factual cite checking. The internship may also offer opportunities to observe court proceedings, client interviews, and attorney conferences. The summer program runs from June 7 through August 13, 2027, on a full-time, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. hybrid schedule. CLC encourages students to seek law school fellowships and other external funding.
