About The Position

The Minnesota Judicial Branch, State Law Library has an opening for a part-time librarian in the Law Library Service to Prisoners (LLSP) program. This program provides law library service to incarcerated individuals or those under the jurisdiction of the Department of Corrections (DOC). The LLSP librarian will research and provide resources to respond to requests, working both independently and collaboratively. Responsibilities may include directing the work of paraprofessionals, interns, or volunteers, under the general supervision of a Library Division Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an approved four-year college or university.
  • Master’s degree from (or current enrollment in) an ALA-accredited program.
  • 1-2 years of experience working in a library, a related field, or conducting legal research.
  • Familiarity with legal research.
  • Ability to effectively work with marginalized communities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Research and respond to legal information requests received from people under DOC jurisdiction via writing, telephone, or online visits.
  • Create and maintain standard responses for frequently asked questions.
  • Schedule and conduct online visits with incarcerated individuals via Zoom.
