About The Position

Bell Nunnally, a highly respected business law firm with a record of success spanning over four decades, is seeking a billing clerk. The firm is located in the Arts District of downtown Dallas and offers a full range of legal services such as litigation, commercial finance, bankruptcy, intellectual property, labor and employment, mergers and acquisitions, immigration and real estate. Our firm has been recognized as a "Top 100 Place to Work" by the Dallas Morning News and has won a "Compass Award" from the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD). Job duties include coordinating the full client billing lifecycle, ensuring that attorney and paralegal time entries and expenses are accurately compiled, edited, and billed to clients in compliance with specific fee arrangements, outside counsel guidelines, and internal firm procedures. Familiarity and proficiency with client-based electronic billing platforms, conventional billing methods, and legal billing software are essential for this position. Work is performed under the general supervision of the firm’s Controller. Depending upon prior work experience and depth of knowledge, this position may be titled Senior Billing Clerk.

Requirements

  • Minimum two years’ experience in legal billing with LEDES formatting is required.
  • Experience with legal billing software, preferably 3E.
  • Experience with electronic billing, submissions, budgeting, and appeals.
  • Maintain a pleasant service-oriented demeanor and a positive, proactive disposition.
  • Ability to perform data entry accurately in a high-volume environment.
  • Ability to follow directions and adhere to operational guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to enter, manipulate, and retrieve information using a computer.
  • Familiarity with a document management system, such as iManage.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with e-billing systems such as Bottomline/LegalX, Collaborati, Wolters Kluwer Passport, Legal Tracker, Counsel Link, and TyMetrix360 strongly preferred.
  • Prior use of Ebilling Hub preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the full-cycle client billing process for attorneys on a first come first served basis; compile attorney and paralegal billed hours and expenses according to client billing cycle.
  • Review and edit proformas/pre-bills and/or time entry narratives in response to attorney requests; perform necessary preparatory steps for submitting bills electronically or conventionally; process transfers and write-downs/write-offs; split bills between clients; apply advance or trust funds accurately to bills.
  • Prepare, review, and upload case budgets to e-billing systems when required for a matter; review budget entries for compliance and completeness.
  • Research, troubleshoot, and respond timely to billing inquiries. Work in consultation with other legal billers as needed.
  • Communicate directly with third party billers, clients, partners, associates, paralegals, legal assistants, and administrative staff in connection with various aspects of client billing.
