About The Position

The Criminal Justice Institute (CJI) is a campus of the University of Arkansas System that serves a unique population of non-traditional students—certified law enforcement professionals who are actively employed within our State’s police departments and sheriff’s offices. The Institute is committed to making communities safer by supporting law enforcement professionals through training, education, resources and collaborative partnerships. Utilizing both classroom-based instruction and practical, hands-on application, CJI provides an educational experience designed to enhance the performance and professionalism of law enforcement in progressive areas of criminal justice, including law enforcement leadership and management, crime scene investigation, computer applications, traffic safety, illicit drug investigations and school safety. This is not a remote position, but an on-site position at the Criminal Justice Institute office in Little Rock, AR.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or greater in Criminal Justice, Public Administration or a related field.
  • Have a minimum of five (5) years' experience at a supervisory level of a law enforcement/criminal justice agency or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possess experience in training, education, research, budgeting and project development.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and the Internet.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to use computers, telephone systems, copiers, and other office equipment.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of law enforcement operations and management.

Nice To Haves

  • A law enforcement instructor certification from the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic leadership for the Center for Law Enforcement Advancement by establishing program priorities, developing operational goals, and ensuring alignment with the Criminal Justice Institute's mission and strategic initiatives.
  • Supervises, coaches, mentors, and evaluates assigned staff, fostering professional development, and accountability.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors the bi-annual training schedule, program objectives, and performance measures for trainings and employees.
  • Oversees program budgets and monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with organizational requirements.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative partnerships with law enforcement and higher education stakeholders to advance training initiatives.
  • Represents the Criminal Justice Institute on advisory boards, committees, conferences, and professional organizations as needed.
  • Oversees instructor recruitment, selection, scheduling, evaluation, and professional development to ensure high-quality instructional delivery.
  • Reviews and approves curriculum and instructional materials to ensure quality and adherence with organizational policies.
  • Ensures that all pre and post paperwork for classes are completed and filed according to agency standards.
