Requirements

  • JD required. Required degree must be completed by the start date.
  • Must be an active member of the Utah Bar.
  • The applicant must have knowledge of the topic and significant teaching experience.

  • This position requires the successful candidate to relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of their employment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a course on Civil Pretrial skills: This class is a semester-long, simulation-based course focused on civil litigation and the pretrial process.
  • Guides students in developing practical lawyering skills, including client intake, case investigation, case theory development, and strategic decision-making.
  • Emphasizes the application of civil procedure and evidence rules as tools for effective advocacy, while fostering a holistic understanding of litigation strategy.
  • Instructs students in managing discovery, drafting pleadings and motions (including dispositive motions and motions in limine), preparing for pretrial hearings, and aligning case development with legal claims and defenses through a realistic, hands-on case simulation.
  • Spend some time outside of class to address questions related to the class.
