About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This role is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. Tasks include emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using various equipment. The technician will demonstrate knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment to provide a clean and sterile environment. Responsibilities may include cleaning patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas to meet health standards. The role requires wearing proper protective equipment, keeping storage areas stocked and tidy, and appropriately using pagers and other technology. There may be access to use technology applications depending on the location and availability of programs. The position involves considerable use of arms and legs, moving the whole body through activities like climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials. The ability to lift and/or move up to 40-50lbs and push/pull variable weight limits is necessary. The individual will be on their feet for the majority of their shift and may be exposed to noise from equipment. Work hours will vary depending on patient/resident needs, potentially including overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
  • Ability to use computer.
  • Prior cleaning experience is helpful.
  • Knowledge of materials, equipment, cleaning methods, and cleaning chemicals is helpful.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas.
  • Follow infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines.
  • Empty waste baskets.
  • Sweep, scrub, wax, or polish floors using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment.
  • Clean patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas to meet health standards.
  • Wear proper protective equipment following appropriate guidelines.
  • Keep storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.
  • Use pagers and other technology appropriately when needed.
  • Assist in the laundry areas as appropriate.
  • Use technology applications depending on location and availability.
  • Perform physical activities including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, twisting, squatting, and handling materials.
  • Lift and/or move up to 40-50lbs and push/pull variable weight limits on flat surfaces or up and down ramps.
  • Be on feet for the majority of the shift.
  • Work varying hours depending on patient/resident needs, potentially including overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
