About The Position

This position is responsible for setting up, programming and operating the laser machine to produce laser cut panels and parts. The role involves ensuring the machine is functional, adjusting settings for accuracy, monitoring the cutting process, performing inspections, and handling materials. Additionally, the operator is responsible for daily and monthly maintenance, recommending production improvements, and collaborating with the press brake operator for material management. The position also requires maintaining a clean and safe work area, adhering to company values and safety rules, and assisting with material handling.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years experience as a Laser Operator.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years CNC laser/Press Brake fabrication experience in shop/manufacturing environment or an equivalent combination of education related experience.
  • Capable of MIG welding and other various metals based on job requirements.
  • Ability to read, interpret, understand blueprints, mechanical drawings, and specification charts, and make direct application to laser/press brake set up and final product.
  • Must be able to read and know appropriate welding symbols and apply them to fabrication process.
  • Must be able to read, and understand production reports related to quality, and quantity.
  • Must be able to write NCR’s and comply with safety rules.
  • Must be able to establish productive and effective communication ties and relationships with co-workers, supervisors, customers, and staff.
  • Ability to calculate and measure dimensions, metal thickness and bend diagrams, heights, tolerances, square, and laser cut accuracy.
  • Must be able to accurately follow plan specifications and use laser to cut panels/parts to match such.
  • Ability to understand and know company operation costs and production costs and production overrun costs.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to analyze and understand project plan documents and specifications and successfully resolve practical problems that may occur.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of CNC programming and basic computer skills for job costing/tracking software.
  • Must possess valid OSHA forklift and Overhead Crane certification or ability to obtain such.
  • Must comply with and follow all IE safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Must operate and perform job duties in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to operate/work safely around machinery/moving equipment.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and talk or hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or smell.
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk and sit.
  • Must be able to perform frequent heavy lifting and continual bending and standing on a concrete floor throughout work shift.
  • Must be able to work a 40 hour work week and additional time as required.

Responsibilities

  • Program laser jobs in software and on machine.
  • Download files from programming computer to the laser machine to start specific jobs.
  • Check machine to ensure it is fully functional prior to starting a laser cutting job.
  • Inspect the vacuum lift to ensure proper functionality.
  • Adjust offsets on the laser machine to ensure accurate cutting.
  • Adjust (minimally) laser alignment and focusing.
  • Constantly monitor machine throughout the job to ensure it is completing the job to specifications.
  • Perform first piece and in process inspection by checking dimensions of part per blueprint using calipers and tape measure to ensure both quality and plan specifications are met.
  • Unload processed panels/parts and part skeleton off worktable after processing.
  • Perform daily maintenance and minor repairs on machine, observing safety standards, and by notifying supervisor when major repairs are needed.
  • Perform monthly maintenance and log maintenance record.
  • Responsible for quantity and quality of work produced in Laser/Fabrication work area.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.
  • Work with press brake operator to help manage cut steel.
  • Work with press brake operator to help part skeletons and organize.
  • Help maintain stock steel and organize material both inside and outside of shop.
  • Load raw materials on to laser machine-Automation tower (PRICE location).
  • Set up and operate a hydraulic press or punch for routine established work when required.
  • Select correct tooling for the job task with setup documents.
  • Load, install and correctly set up the tools required.
  • Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications and quality.
  • Properly care for and maintain tools in good operating condition; ensure tools and equipment is properly stored at the end of each shift.
  • Maintains regular and consistent job attendance, comes to work on time.
  • Follows and complies with IE Core Values, including Cardinal Safety Rules.
  • Follow and comply with IE safety program. Must maintain a safe and clean work area at all times.
  • Help Material Handler maintain stock steel & organize material inside and outside of shop.
