About The Position

Side is looking for a part-time or full time Japanese QA Language Specialist to fully support our Japanese quality assurance and client required projects being performed at our Studio or client's office. This is a critical role within the Japanese QA function and will see the post holder interact with multiple departments and project teams, taking on a varied workload. Requirements

  • Native-level fluency in Japanese and strong English ability, both written and verbal
  • Up-to-date awareness of Japanese culture
  • Experience with MS applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); ability to navigate networks and websites with different browsers; basic knowledge of PC-hardware

Nice To Haves

  • Previous localization, QA, translation or video games experience
  • Knowledge of the current generation of games consoles and PCs, and the latest mobile and tablet platforms
  • An interest in, and understanding of, the video game industry
  • The ability to work well within a multicultural, multilingual workforce, sometimes under pressure, and often to strict deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work productively and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Flexibility regarding unsociable and extended working hours to meet the demands of the role
  • Previous experience of being a Japanese Translator or Interpreter
  • Previous experience of working within a Japanese business

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing translated Japanese text to discover, correct and report defects (bugs) using state of the art in-house software (training provided).
  • Evaluating translations in the context of software and documentation guidelines, to ensure that QA localisation is accurately matched to the Japanese language for the latest generation of consoles, tablets and mobiles.
  • Proofreading to highlight inconsistencies in context and style in text files – ensuring the Japanese language text matches the English.
  • Researching topics relating to games to ensure authentic and accurate contextual use of the Japanese language.
  • Providing critical and concise analysis and feedback in daily reports.
  • Completing assigned tasks within the allocated deadline; working extra hours when necessary to finish those tasks.
  • Be a subject matter expert for Japanese linguistic issues; researching and resolving Japanese linguistic questions within various Japanese projects.
  • Adhering to project-specific and Side quality standards, trademarks, style guides, and client-preferred checklists and glossaries.
  • Troubleshooting basic problems; being able to communicate effectively and escalate testing issues to other members of the Japanese project team or QA Lead.
  • Supporting multiple Japanese projects and acting as a point of contact between the QA management team and members of the project as needed to ensure adequate communication of all project status.
  • Continually liaising and communicating with multiple members within the different projects, including external partners and clients, verbally, and by email/online chat.
  • Translating in game Japanese text, client issues and client responses.
  • Translation of internal and external communications.
