About The Position

Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12 Educational Services is seeking qualified Language Interpreters and Translators to support communication among students, families, educators, school districts, and community partners throughout Adams, Franklin, and York Counties. Interpreters and translators help ensure individuals with limited English proficiency have meaningful access to educational programs, services, meetings, and information. Assignments may include in-person interpretation, virtual or telephone interpretation, and written translation, depending on program needs and the contractor's qualifications.

Requirements

• Proficiency in English and at least one additional language
• Ability to communicate professionally with students, families, educators, administrators, and community partners
• Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive student and family information
• Dependability and flexibility to accept assignments on an as-needed basis
• Successfully complete LIU12's Interpreter/Translator Certification Process
• Demonstrated proficiency in both English and the target language
• Training in educational interpretation, ethics, confidentiality, cultural responsiveness, and professional practices
• Language proficiency may be verified through an approved assessment or credential when applicable

Nice To Haves

• Experience providing interpretation and/or translation services
• Experience working in education, human services, healthcare, community organizations, or other settings serving culturally and linguistically diverse populations
• Knowledge of professional interpreter ethics, confidentiality, cultural responsiveness, and appropriate interpreter roles

Responsibilities

• Provide in-person interpretation
• Provide virtual or telephone interpretation
• Provide written translation
