About The Position

The Haitian Creole Translator/Interpreter will be responsible for written and oral translation of school documents and communications to ensure effective communication between the school district and families. This role involves translating various documents, supporting parent outreach and registration, and maintaining an electronic database of translations. The position requires flexibility to attend evening events and a commitment to supporting the Marlborough Public Schools District's mission.

Requirements

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Haitian Creole.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable car to travel between schools during the work day.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal skills as he or she deals directly with the public on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to work well as part of a team.
  • Must be self-motivated, flexible, very well organized.
  • Required to work 10 evening events per fiscal year.
  • Must be detailed oriented, with analytical and problem solving skills, along with customer service abilities and other related characteristics.
  • Be familiar with computers and computer software programs particularly Excel and Microsoft Office including Microsoft Outlook.
  • Be familiar with using the Internet.

Nice To Haves

  • Qualified Tier 2 or Tier 3 Interpreter in the Education Setting preferred.
  • Ability with data base programs such as Aspen are a plus.
  • Flexibility to attend additional evening events in addition to the 10 evening events required.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for written and oral translation of school documents, including school communications to families, teacher/parent communication, Individual Education Plans, and district-wide school messenger.
  • Aiding administration in parent outreach.
  • Ensures all "school to home" communications are translated appropriately.
  • Maintains electronic data base of all translations.
  • Aids in translation for parents registering in the Parent Outreach Center.
  • Supports the Administrative Assistant in the Registration and Parent Outreach Center.
  • Be flexible to attend evening parent open houses and conferences outside of regular working hours as needed.
  • Assumes other duties as may be assigned by the Building Administrators.
  • Responsible for other general duties as indicated by the Communications Coordinator, Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.
