About The Position

Wilson Middle School is seeking a teacher to join their team at the beginning of the 2026-27 school year who will teach grade 6 Language Arts and Social Studies as well as Grade 7 Language Arts and Social Studies. The successful candidate will also be responsible to teach an Options course that will be confirmed prior to the position beginning. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic educator who has a background in Social Studies and/or Language Arts (preferred), has the ability to work closely with the staff to build a positive and inclusive school culture, demonstrates the ability and deep belief in forming positive and genuine relationships for the purpose of learning in an inclusive classroom, has knowledge and/or experience in working in complex classrooms, and has successful experience proactively planning for behavioral and diverse/complex classrooms. Applicants must possess or be eligible to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate. This is a full-time, interim position (1.00 FTE) and is not open to current continuing contracted teachers within Lethbridge School Division.

Requirements

  • Possess or be eligible to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate
  • Provide a police information check, including Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Provide a satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services
  • Provide proof of photo identification
  • Provide documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s legal name

Responsibilities

  • Teach grade 6 Language Arts and Social Studies
  • Teach Grade 7 Language Arts and Social Studies
  • Teach an Options course
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of diverse learning contexts and the variables that influence student success, including cultural, social, and individual factors
  • Apply deep knowledge of subject disciplines and evidence-based pedagogical approaches that reflect current best practices in elementary education
  • Show proficiency in curriculum planning, formative and summative assessment strategies, and differentiated instructional practices that meet diverse learning needs
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies that foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment where all students can thrive
  • Integrate technology purposefully and effectively to enhance teaching and learning experiences
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning aligned with Alberta's Teaching Quality Standard (TQS)
  • Build and maintain respectful, professional relationships within the school community
  • Participate in collaborative practice and teamwork with colleagues, students, and families
  • Contribute actively to school culture, student activities, and extracurricular programs
  • Develop effective partnerships within the school and broader community
  • Proactively plan for behavioral and diverse/complex classrooms
