About The Position

The Language and Literacy Center (LLC) Supervisor serves as the anchor presence in the South Omaha Campus Language and Literacy Center, providing ESL and literacy support services to MCC students, faculty, and staff during assigned hours. The supervisor supervises the day-to-day activities and scheduling of the other LLC staff, whether they serve in the South Omaha LLC, online, at the FOC and EVC campuses, or embedded in high-need classrooms and programs. The supervisor assists with hiring and training LLC team members, provides expertise and leadership in language and literacy support across the college, and liaises with faculty and departments to understand student needs and design appropriate interventions.

Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and active listening skills.
  • Knowledge of second language learning, literacy support strategies, and academic coaching techniques.
  • Knowledge of learning and tutoring methodologies.
  • Knowledge of adult learners’ specific educational needs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Knowledge of college-supported software applications and online learning platforms such as Canvas or Blackboard.
  • Ability to exhibit professionalism, empathy, and understanding in challenging situations.
  • Ability to work independently and productively.
  • Ability to collaborate professionally with a wide range of college stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work and interact effectively with students and colleagues of various abilities, cultures, identities, and ethnicities.
  • Master’s degree in a related discipline such as TESOL, Education, Reading, or English, with at least 18 graduate hours in TESOL or TESOL/TEFL certification.
  • Two years of related work experience such as teaching, tutoring, or training diverse adult learners.
  • At least one year of hands-on experience working with second-language learners.
  • Ability to travel between campuses for meetings or position responsibilities.
  • Must pass background check.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and schedules part-time staff members assigned to the Language and Literacy Center, in person and online, ensuring quality control and consistency in language and literacy support services.
  • Serves as a steady presence in the Language and Literacy Center at the South Omaha Campus, providing ESL and literacy support services to MCC students, faculty, and staff during assigned hours.
  • Assists with recruiting, hiring, and training consultants, tutors, and student workers to support students’ language and literacy support needs across all college locations.
  • Liaises with faculty and academic departments across disciplines to understand language and literacy needs and design appropriate interventions.
  • Provides expertise and cross-college leadership for language and literacy support, keeping current with research and trends in the field.
  • Maintains accurate records and reports on center effectiveness and student outcomes.
  • Develops, schedules, and conducts workshops, presentations, and trainings.
  • Promotes the Language and Literacy Center and other Academic Support & Libraries services through classroom visits and personal contacts with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Consistently and dependably attends work, activities, and functions as scheduled or assigned.
