About The Position

The Landscaping/Grounds Crew Teacher is responsible for the upkeep and appearance of school grounds. This is a labor-intensive position that is physically taxing and requires working outdoors in various weather conditions. The role involves overseeing up to 6 students daily and requires the ability to diagnose and resolve problems with minimal supervision.

Requirements

Must be a current Unit A Teacher employed by Chicopee Public Schools.
Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades.
Knowledge of a broad range of hand tools and powered equipment, such as lawnmowers, rakes, trimmers, and chainsaws.
Strong communication, job coordination, and organizational skills.
Must have a valid driver's license.
OSHAIO Certified.

Responsibilities

Oversee up to 6 students daily.
Diagnose and resolve problems with very little supervision.
Maintain lawns, trees, shrubs, flowerbeds, and other landscaping elements.
Tend to the seasonal needs of walkways, parking lots, seating areas, fences, and buildings.
Assist in estimates, technical correspondence, and reports.
Perform scheduled, routine maintenance on school grounds using a variety of equipment.
Drive a truck to transport materials and equipment to job sites.
Respond to emergency service calls as directed.
Observe and inform the Director of Maintenance of safety hazards.
Estimate the amount of required supplies for grounds projects and select the necessary materials.
Inspect completed work and direct any rework or modification.
