The Landscape Team Leader is an experienced member of the Landscape division, primarily responsible for directing a team of two or more members on a job. This role involves constructing and installing water features, low-voltage lighting, carpentry, landscaping, and stone/boulder work. The Team Leader must be proficient in operating various equipment, possess basic horticultural knowledge, and have advanced understanding of landscape means, methods, and techniques, working with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • A high school degree or GED is required.
  • Two years of documented experience in the green industry.
  • Great verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use Apple technology for time tracking and job management.
  • Great analytical problem-solving and decision-making ability.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate with clients and professionals.
  • Ability to use Google translate efficiently to communicate with Spanish speaking workers.
  • Responsible for training and coaching a team of two or more team members to help develop their skills & ensure team members receive proper training.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient job site and ensure truck/tools/equipment are properly maintained.
  • Ensure daily tasks are completed on schedule and budget to quality standard.
  • Responsible for all tools being returned to the shop at the end of a workday and tagging any tools needing repairs.
  • Ability to drive truck & trailer combinations.
  • Maintain a neat and clean professional appearance.
  • Performs daily check-ins with Group Leader by 3:00 PM to discuss current project status and equipment needs for the following day.
  • Works as a team member throughout Southern Landscape Group with a positive attitude.
  • Knows and supports the company’s vision, mission, and core values.
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license with insurable driving record.
  • VDACS Registered Tech Certification.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • NALP Landscape Technician Cert. - Landscape Install & Irrigation.
  • VCH (Skilled).
  • Valid Virginia CDL class “A”, with “O” exemption and valid medical card (skilled).

Responsibilities

  • Control a production crew and motivate them to their best performance, commanding respect while creating a team support environment.
  • Read landscaping blueprints and apply working knowledge of plant material.
  • Work directly with other team leaders and subcontractors to implement the construction phase of a project.
  • Apply pesticides as a licensed applicator.
  • Ensure pre-loading of equipment and materials for the next production day’s work.
  • Operate a variety of equipment including back hoes, track loaders, excavators, trenchers, tillers, straw blowers, chain saws, electric saws, and other miscellaneous small hand tools.
  • Operate automatic and stick-shift vehicles, commercial trucks, and truck and trailer combinations.
  • Routinely interact with clients, including introductions, answering questions, responding to requests, and informing production/sales teams of potential changes or client requests.
  • Record crew members' time, complete forms, and other paperwork daily, ensuring accuracy.
  • Track material used and received on jobsites.
  • Assist with job planning and organization, ensuring sufficient resources and materials are available.
  • Ensure jobs are completed efficiently within allotted hours to produce a quality end product.
  • Manage and coach a team of two or more employees to help develop their skills.
  • Communicate personnel issues to HR and ensure team members receive proper training.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work-site and ensure equipment is properly maintained.
  • Return all tools to the shop at the end of a workday and tag any tools needing repairs.
  • Assist with snow removal operations in the winter months.
  • Perform daily check-ins with Group Leader by 3 PM to discuss project status and equipment needs for the following day.
  • Speak and understand basic Spanish.
  • Work as a team member throughout Southern Landscape Group as needed.
