About The Position

This position will be a working supervisor who leads their team to maintain grounds within the facility. Supervisor will lead a team of landscape specialists, some who have a disability, to keep the fields and grounds of the West Point Prep Academy in tip top shape. During snow season they will clear sidewalks, walkways, pavers, and steps. Their team will also be responsible for clearing roads and parking lots. During off and down time, the supervisor will assist the custodial supervisor with tasks such as barracks reset and supporting custodial functions inside during inclement weather.

Requirements

  • Able to obtain quotes and bids for jobs from vendors.
  • Strong organization skills with accurate attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Sufficient skills to communicate effectively with system users regarding technical and business issues.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a supervisory landscaping position.
  • Must lead by example.
  • Must be capable to move throughout work day and follow people served throughout community.
  • Work alongside co-workers within 3 feet.
  • Work well with others and in a team.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to physically operate heavy landscaping equipment in a safe manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with network administration.
  • Completion of landscaping training courses is a plus.
  • Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform grounds keeping using mowers and hand-powered equipment (e.g., blowers, 0 turn mowers, and weed whackers).
  • Use equipment and drive tool cats, backhoe, sanders, and plow vehicles.
  • Trim shrubs & trees, mulch around shrubs & trees, beds, seeding, sweep walk ways.
  • Prune trees, cut limbs, use chain saw, water & maintain shrubbery, power wash outdoor areas.
  • Groom field with power groomer, tool cats and use of all grounds power tools.
  • Plow snow, handle call-ins during storms, call in workers before storms, set up snow plows and prepare winter equipment before and during storms.
  • Conduct tailgate meetings with workers.
  • Supervise workers on spreading salt & use of snow blowing equipment.
  • Keep in contact daily on all issues pertaining to grounds and workers.
  • Maintain inventories of tools, equipment, and stock.
  • Drive work vehicles to be fixed, inspected, and maintained.
  • Fill small cans with fuel.
  • Keep all trucks & equipment fueled and ready to go.
  • Meet with supervisor on day-to-day issues that may arise.
  • Meet with vendors & contractors.
  • Groom field with pull behind tractor/tool cat.
  • Assist custodial supervisor during off and down time (e.g., reset of barracks, during rain).
  • Supervise custodial workers when their supervisor is off.
  • Guide team while supporting custodial with barracks reset.
  • Support custodial inside during inclement weather (rain) with their daily functions.
  • Drive in inclement weather.
