About The Position

Focal Pointe's 2027 Summer Landscape Internship offers a unique opportunity to explore the multifaceted professional landscape industry. This program is designed for individuals who enjoy working outdoors and are looking for more than just a summer job, aiming to discover career paths within a large-scale commercial landscape company. Interns will rotate through various departments, gaining hands-on experience and understanding how horticulture, irrigation, construction, design, client relations, and business operations integrate. The internship provides exposure to multiple career paths, allowing interns to discover potential career trajectories within the industry. The program is based in the Hazelwood market, with opportunities to connect with other professionals and interns across the company.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a college degree and have completed approximately 60 credit hours.
Interest in horticulture, agriculture, landscape architecture, construction, business, or a related field.
Love working outdoors.
Curiosity and willingness to ask questions.
Desire for hands-on experience.
Enjoy working as part of a team.
Willingness to learn from people throughout the organization.
Desire to understand career opportunities within the landscape industry.
Ability to safely perform physical responsibilities associated with outdoor landscape work, with reasonable accommodations when applicable.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, reach, push, pull, and lift and move up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

Rotate through different areas of the business, including Estate Gardening and Detail Crews, Commercial Landscape Maintenance, Irrigation and Technical Services, Plant Health Care, Landscape Construction and Installation, Account Management, Landscape Design, and Business Operations.
Gain hands-on experience by working alongside landscape maintenance, gardening, and construction teams.
Assist with landscape installation and field layout.
Learn about annual and perennial plant care.
Assist with irrigation installation, troubleshooting, startups, and repairs.
Learn about Plant Health Care practices and equipment.
Take site measurements for estimating and bidding.
Understand how landscape designs move from concept to installation.
Shadow Account Managers to learn client relationship management.
Work alongside Operations Managers to learn team and project management.
Learn about the business operations that support a commercial landscape company.
Spend additional time in a self-selected area based on career interests toward the end of the program.
