Landscape Internship
About The Position
Focal Pointe's 2027 Summer Landscape Internship offers a unique opportunity to explore the professional landscape industry by rotating through different areas of the business. Interns will gain hands-on experience alongside professionals, learning about horticulture, irrigation, construction, design, client relationships, and business operations. This program is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the industry from the ground up, helping interns discover potential career paths. The internship is based in the Kansas City market, with opportunities to connect with other professionals and interns across the company.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a college degree and have completed approximately 60 credit hours.
- Interest in horticulture, agriculture, landscape architecture, construction, business, or a related field.
- Love working outdoors.
- Curiosity and willingness to ask questions.
- Desire for hands-on experience.
- Enjoy working as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn from people throughout the organization.
- Desire to understand career opportunities within the landscape industry.
- Ability to safely perform physical responsibilities associated with outdoor landscape work, with reasonable accommodations when applicable.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, reach, push, pull, and lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Rotate through different areas of the landscape business, including Estate Gardening and Detail Crews, Commercial Landscape Maintenance, Irrigation and Technical Services, Plant Health Care, Landscape Construction and Installation, Account Management, Landscape Design, and Business Operations.
- Work alongside experienced professionals in various departments.
- Gain hands-on experience in landscape maintenance, gardening, and construction.
- Assist with landscape installation and field layout.
- Learn about annual and perennial plant care.
- Assist with irrigation installation, troubleshooting, and repairs.
- Learn about Plant Health Care practices and equipment.
- Take site measurements for estimating and bidding.
- Understand how landscape designs move from concept to installation.
- Shadow Account Managers to learn about client relationship management.
- Work with Operations Managers to understand team and project management.
- Learn about the business operations that support a commercial landscape company.
- Spend additional time in an area that aligns with career interests and goals towards the end of the program.
