About The Position

The Maintenance Worker in Forest Lawn’s Gardens Department performs entry-level gardening and grounds maintenance to care for cemetery grounds. Under supervision, the employee works independently, with a coworker, or as part of a team, and may assist other departments with related tasks as needed. The role involves operating light trucks and utility vehicles, motorized gardening equipment, and hand tools. The employee is expected to provide caring and compassionate service to visitors and guests.

Requirements

At least 6 months of experience in a maintenance position.
Valid California Driver’s License.
Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
Caring and professional demeanor and enjoyment of helping families during a difficult time.
Ability to work weekends and holidays.
Ability to work on-site.

Responsibilities

Remove litter and debris from cemetery grounds.
Assist visitors, guests, and property owners by providing directions and other assistance, including requested interment space maintenance.
Immediately report safety hazards.
Report facility repairs and maintenance needs to the department supervisor.
Review the Maintenance Interment Report and morning Service Sheet for funeral services scheduled in assigned areas.
Treat visitors, guests, team members, and other employees with respect and demonstrate integrity.
Mow, edge, and trim lawns.
Trim grass around memorial tablets and lawn vases.
Trim hedges, espaliers, shrubs, and ground covers.
Prepare and plant landscape plants and trees, and install sod.
Prune small trees.
Apply chemicals, including fertilizers, wetting agents, and herbicides.
Assist with setup and cleanup before and after special events.
Set up and secure canopies for funeral services and special events.
