Landscape Grounds Supv 2

University of California, San Francisco•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Grounds & Integrated Pest Management (IPM), the Landscape Grounds Supervisor 2 provides frontline supervision, operational leadership, technical expertise, and administrative management for Grounds services across multiple UCSF locations. The position supervises and coordinates employees serving campuses, UCSF Health, Housing, Parking & Transportation, and other UCSF-owned or leased facilities. Because employees may work simultaneously at geographically separated sites, the supervisor maintains effective oversight, communication, accountability, and support across the service area. The supervisor independently organizes employees, equipment, vehicles, contractors, materials, schedules, technology, and other resources to meet organizational objectives and service goals. The role develops short- and long-term operating strategies, evaluates field conditions, identifies operational and public-safety risks, develops solutions, recommends procedures, and provides technical guidance to employees, customers, Facility Managers, and Facilities Services leadership. It coordinates with municipalities and public agencies where UCSF exterior spaces interface with public infrastructure or neighboring properties. Risk management and preventive maintenance are significant parts of the role. The supervisor identifies exterior conditions that may create safety, accessibility, operational, property, or service risks and ensures they are documented, prioritized, corrected, monitored, or referred to the responsible entity. The position also promotes innovation and continuous improvement using technology, GIS and asset information, landscape and irrigation management systems, operational data, and industry best practices. The UCSF Facilities Services Department supports the University's research, teaching, health care, and community service mission by operating and maintaining a complex, geographically dispersed portfolio of facilities. Its Grounds program covers landscape and horticultural maintenance, trees and urban forestry, irrigation and water management, hardscape, exterior cleanliness, vegetation and landscape pest management, exterior safety conditions, tree wells, sidewalks, pedestrian areas, and other assigned exterior assets. The role also coordinates with the Pest Control Supervisor 2 and Associate Director on overlapping Grounds and IPM operations and may provide operational and technical support for the Mount Sutro Open Space Reserve. Significant policy, regulatory, environmental, community-relations, and long-term program decisions are coordinated with or escalated to the Associate Director.
