About The Position

DJ&A, a multidisciplinary professional services consulting firm, is seeking a Landscape Architect to join its growing team in the Chicagoland area, specifically in partnership with its Civil Engineering & Design (CE&D) division and sister company, Robinson Engineering. This role is crucial for leading and delivering local and regional landscape architecture and site development projects, acting as a trusted advisor to both established and new clients. The ideal candidate will possess strong creative problem-solving skills, a commitment to quality and detail, and thrive in a collaborative environment that values integrity, accountability, and its people. This position may be contingent on the award of a master services contract, but qualified candidates are encouraged to apply as other opportunities may exist.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture from a LAAB-accredited program (required).
  • 5+ years of progressive landscape architecture experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and/or other industry-standard design software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality, attention to detail, and client service.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Landscape Architect (PLA) licensure preferred; candidates actively pursuing licensure are encouraged to apply.
  • Urban and civic landscape design experience.
  • Parks, trails, and open space planning experience.
  • Streetscape and transportation corridor design experience.
  • Site development for public and private clients experience.
  • Municipal coordination and permitting experience.
  • Experience with federal projects, including National Park Service (NPS) and federal project delivery, is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to landscape architecture projects from planning and design through construction, including site design, planting plans, grading, hardscape, and coordination with municipalities and stakeholders.
  • Assist with the management of scope, schedule, budget, and internal resources to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Oversee preparation of landscape plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary internal teams and external consultants.
  • Take ownership of project outcomes by leading with integrity, clear communication, and a commitment to delivering quality work that serves both clients and communities.
  • Contribute to QA/QC reviews to ensure accurate, thoughtful, and high-quality deliverables.
  • Serve as a trusted Landscape Architect advisor to municipal clients, providing responsiveness and thoughtful solutions.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with prioritized local public works and parks & recreation focused clients, including municipalities and county governments.
  • Build trust through responsive service, follow-through, and transparent communication, serving as a long-term partner.
  • Support business development efforts through proposal development and client meetings.
  • Identify opportunities to expand services and strengthen long-term client partnerships, with a focus on expanding the landscape architecture practice into the Chicagoland area.
  • Mentor and support emerging engineers and project managers.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and quality-focused team environment.
