About The Position

The Operator – Heavy Equipment is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station to transfer, spread, cover, load, and/or compact waste or soil efficiently and safely. The role includes equipment inspections and monitoring, minor servicing and documentation, following safety policies, and keeping the shop clean and equipment stored at the end of each shift. Other related duties may be required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of prior experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
• Good customer service skills and a professional, courteous, cooperative, honest, and trustworthy manner toward customers and coworkers.
• Good time management skills to complete assigned responsibilities efficiently and safely.
• Ability to follow through, adhere to the work schedule, and address challenges as they arise.
• Ability to adhere to company policies and rules, promote safety standards, and avoid inappropriate risks.
• Pride in work and commitment to achieving goals.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in the Solid Waste Industry.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre- and post-operation equipment inspections in accordance with company policy, ensuring windows, lights, mirrors, and rear-view cameras are clean.
• Safely and efficiently operate equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, front-end loaders, and other equipment using proper safety standards.
• Monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
• Monitor equipment condition to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime; clean tracks or wheels as needed.
• Perform and document minor equipment service, referring more complicated mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop.
• Complete Equipment Condition Reports and other necessary reports, and report required repairs to a supervisor.
• Follow all required safety policies and procedures and promote company safety standards.
• Ensure the shop is clean and serviced and equipment is stored at the completion of each shift.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
