Land Surveyor
About The Position
Widseth is seeking a high-energy, technically strong, collaborative Land Surveyor to lead field work and contribute to projects involving utility corridors, renewable energy, transportation systems, civil infrastructure, and urban expansion. The role includes managing survey projects from kickoff through closeout, supervising and mentoring field crews, working with clients and project partners, and serving as signing surveyor in accordance with state licensing requirements. The position emphasizes safety, data integrity, quality, and continuous professional development. Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship; offers are contingent upon successful completion of a background check meeting company standards.
Requirements
- Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS).
- 5–8+ years of land surveying experience.
- Strong knowledge of boundary law, construction surveying, and local land use regulations.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, and Leica or Topcon workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to manage teams, projects, and client relationships.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to client sites as needed.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
- Successful completion of a background check meeting company standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead boundary, ALTA/NSPS, construction staking, and topographic surveys across diverse project types.
- Supervise and mentor field crews, providing technical direction and professional development.
- Manage survey projects from kickoff through closeout, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
- Review and prepare plats, legal descriptions, right-of-way maps, and construction drawings.
- Operate and oversee use of GPS, robotic total stations, laser scanners, UAVs, and advanced survey technologies.
- Collaborate directly with clients, project managers, engineers, and public agencies.
- Serve as signing surveyor in accordance with state licensing requirements.
- Champion safety, data integrity, and continuous improvement.
