About The Position

The St. Johns River Water Management District is an environmental agency whose work is focused on ensuring a long-term supply of drinking water, and to protect and restore the health of water bodies in the District’s 18 counties in northeast and east-central Florida. The Bureau of District Projects and Construction is responsible for the design and implementation of projects that meet the missions of the District. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in geomatics.
  • Registration as a Land Surveyor-in-Training.
  • Registration by the State of Florida as a Professional Surveyor and Mapper.
  • Valid State of Florida Driver’s License.
  • Advanced computer hardware and software applications and programs including Autodesk Civil3D, ESRI ArcMAP, GPS post processing software, and Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Maintain priority of safety, communication and work well with others as a team.
  • Make effective, consistent, and defensible decisions in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Create boundary, topographic and easements of maps from deeds, plats, and survey field data.
  • Process and check conventional and global positioning systems (GPS) field data.
  • Assist field crew in performing land surveying field work.
  • Provide general, professional, and technical support in conventional and specialty aspects of land surveying to District staff.
  • Prepare scopes of work, review invoices and perform other contract administrative duties associated with consultant provided surveying services.
  • Manage surveying and mapping projects using District staff and contract survey crews.
  • Certify survey maps and reports as required by the State of Florida.
  • Manage surveying and mapping programs, such as the vertical leveling program and the global positioning systems program.
  • Provide professional surveying and mapping expertise to District staff, governmental agencies and consulting firms for District projects.
  • Provides technical training and implements improvement ideas.
  • Serve as an expert witness.
  • Perform procurement related administrative duties including contract management, invoice review and preparation of scopes of work.
  • Provide other duties as assigned, including but not limited to attending and/or presenting at professional and organizational training sessions or workshops.
