About The Position

Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates, Inc. (HCEA) is seeking multiple Land Surveying Field Crew staff members, including a Party Chief and Instrument Operator, for its Surveying, Monitoring, and Instrumentation Group in Annapolis Junction, Maryland. The crew works primarily on projects in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Staff set up survey control, collect monitoring-point data for excavation and adjacent construction, perform construction stakeout, and conduct data-collection surveys. The role requires operating and maintaining field survey equipment, organizing survey data, communicating effectively, and working outdoors in varied conditions.

Requirements

• Ability to operate robotic total stations, field data collectors, digital levels, and GPS units.
• Competence in Coordinate Geometry and Excel spreadsheets.
• Ability to work independently, solve problems, stay organized, and be accountable.
• Excellent oral communication skills and ability to communicate via email.
• Excellent work habits and attendance.
• Ability to carry 50 pounds over 800 feet of uneven terrain and work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
• Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Leica field equipment and Leica and Carlson field data collectors.
• Experience with Leica Captivate and Infinity software and AutoCAD with Carlson Survey office software.
• One year of experience working on a survey field crew.
• Two- or four-year surveying degree.
• CST or LSIT certification.

Responsibilities

• Set up survey control and collect data for monitoring points in support of excavation and adjacent construction.
• Perform construction stakeout and data-collection surveys.
• Operate robotic total stations, field data collectors, digital levels, and GPS units.
• Calibrate and care for tribrachs, prism rods, total stations, and other field equipment.
• Organize survey data on the company server.
• Communicate via email and work independently to solve problems.
