About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Natural Resources, the Land and Resources Manager supervises the Land and Resources Branch, and is responsible for implementing land and resources initiatives with respect to land use planning and development, settlement land tenure system administration, and GIS program management. The incumbent assists the Director in developing and reviewing land and resources legislation and policies, and supports the Department’s strategic planning, budget management and jëje-in development priorities. An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in a discipline related to land use planning, natural resource management, environmental science or a related field of study, and a minimum of two years of related work experience. An equivalent combination of education, knowledge, skills and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in supervising, coaching, mentoring and performance management.
  • Excellent research, analytical and policy development skills.
  • Experience working with boards, committees, agencies and councils.
  • Strong knowledge of TH history and culture, land and resources issues, TH legislation and land claim-related agreements, and federal/Government of Yukon legislation and regulations.
  • Relevant experience using computers and programs, including MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in writing proposals, activity reports and financial reports.
  • Experience with developing, monitoring and reporting on strategic plans, budgets and workplans.
  • Criminal Records Check.
  • Willingness to take Remote/Wilderness First Aid.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s license with clear driver’s abstract.
  • TH101 Cultural Awareness training.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with database and GIS systems, and land planning and development.
  • Experience (or willingness to learn) with safely operating ATVs, snowmobiles and boats.
