About The Position

This purpose of the Ladle Refiner is maintaining the operation of the LSS and LMF. Ladle Refiner ensures the temperature and chemistry of each heat through the LMF/LSS. They are to ensure the LMF/LSS is running as efficient as possible on their shift and work closely with the Melt Shop Shift Leader to ensure shop pacing.

  • The employee is frequently required to make use of their hands for technical tasks
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

  • Must be able to work in a high heat environment
  • Ability to work a rotating shift (rotating from days to nights on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule)
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
  • Follow Company safety rules
  • Report the absence of or defect in any protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisor or Manager immediately
  • Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that is required to be used or worn: a. Safety shoes b. Safety glasses c. Hearing protection d. Hard Hat
  • Some areas may require additional personal protective equipment such as: e. Respirators; the respirator requires you to be clean shaven in order to comply with company policies and procedures as well as OSHA Regulations. f. Fire Retardant clothing g. Acid PPE h. Silver jacket i. Face shield j. High temp gloves
  • Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy
  • Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines
  • Must follow all Environmental Policies and Regulations
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Clean, well ventilated and safe work areas.
  • Abiding by the Acerinox Code of Conduct
  • Keeping oneself informed through your company email account
  • Maintaining your Dynamic Policy Profile and all assigned learnings therein
  • Abiding by all security procedures

Responsibilities

  • Operation of LSS / LMF ladle car.
  • Initiation of sample taking and ensure the samples are sent to the lab
  • Initiation of temperature taking
  • Delivery of raw materials correctly through material feeding system.
  • Assist with Slide Gate Leader on any slidegate duties as needed
  • General Housekeeping.
  • Maintenance as required.
  • Maintenance during outages.
  • Responsible for all pertinent paper work.
  • Work as team with all other departments.
  • Miscellaneous tasks as assigned by AOD/Ladle Prep Supervisor
  • Work area is cleaned, stocked, and 6S at all times
  • Electrodes at LMF are slipped and full to ensure proper operation.
  • Let the ladle prep leader know if there are any issues that needs to be addressed in order for you to perform your job in a safe manner. Also, bring it up to the group lead that your concern can get resolved.
  • Monitor thermal vision during processing and alert the shift leader to any concerns with ladles before there's a failure
  • Ensure the top lance is in working order and change if needed
  • Make certain each heat goes to the caster at the request temperature to maintain shop pacing
  • Ensure LMF/LSS wire is stocked and in the correct feeders
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Participation in relevant continuous improvement programs.
  • Going to all safety and communication meetings.
  • Maintain work area to 6S standard.
  • Participate in TPM, SMED, and other auxiliary programs.
  • Training on the Ladle Prep deck involving slide gate and IPV maintenance.
