UR Breastfeeding Medicine Practice - Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) - RN 2, Outpatient
About The Position
This is a great opportunity to join a team supporting families in our community with complex lactation needs! Flexibility is a must in this fast-paced and evolving program! In the outpatient setting, the IBCLC will work closely as a team with a Breastfeeding Medicine provider, seeing patients with complex breastfeeding issues that require high levels of care, e.g. babies with prematurity, failure to thrive, parents with low milk supply, infections, complex medication regimens and surgeries, etc. Promoting breastfeeding/chest feeding/lactation and supporting staff through education and empowerment are also critical to this position. Ideal candidates should have a strong background in lactation care for complex maternal-infant dyads, an understanding of medical concerns in breastfeeding/chest feeding, be a team player, be detail-oriented, reliable, competent, and facile with electronic documentation tools. The IBCLC is expected to be an excellent communicator with patients and the healthcare team. The IBCLC will also have the opportunity to serve as a resource to other members of the team including learners and observers.
Requirements
- IBCLC or CLC and RN degree required.
- Strong background in lactation care for complex maternal-infant dyads.
- Understanding of medical concerns in breastfeeding/chest feeding.
- Team player.
- Detail-oriented.
- Reliable.
- Competent.
- Facile with electronic documentation tools.
- Excellent communicator with patients and the healthcare team.

Responsibilities
- Provision of competent direct patient care based on established standards.
- Contributes to unit activities and supports enhancement of the care delivery system at the unit level.
- Supports peers in the delivery of patient care services.
- Assumes an expanded role which may include charge nurse, preceptor, and committee member responsibilities.
- Seeing patients with complex breastfeeding issues that require high levels of care, e.g. babies with prematurity, failure to thrive, parents with low milk supply, infections, complex medication regimens and surgeries, etc.
- Promoting breastfeeding/chest feeding/lactation and supporting staff through education and empowerment.
- Serve as a resource to other members of the team including learners and observers.
Benefits
- Compensation Range: $38.76 - $52.33
