About The Position

The Town of Devon is seeking two energetic, reliable, and community-focused individuals to join our Arena Operations team as Permanent Part-Time Labourers. These positions play an important role in supporting the safe, clean, and efficient operation of the GFL Twin Arenas and helping create a positive experience for residents, user groups, and visitors. Working as part of a collaborative operations team, you will assist with facility maintenance, custodial services, event setup and takedown, facility inspections, operational support, and customer service activities. This is an ideal opportunity for individuals who enjoy hands-on work, take pride in maintaining public facilities, and thrive in a team-oriented environment. The position is primarily assigned to Arena Operations; however, based on operational requirements, staffing needs, or organizational priorities, incumbents may be assigned to support Parks & Open Spaces operations from time to time. This position is safety-sensitive and requires sustained situational awareness, sound judgment, and strict adherence to safe work procedures while working around equipment, facility operations, contractors, public users, and varying environmental conditions.

Requirements

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • WHMIS Certification.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to perform physical labour in varying indoor and outdoor conditions.
  • Ability to follow instructions and safe work practices.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to safely use hand tools and equipment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing operational priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in recreation, arena, custodial, maintenance, parks, or municipal operations.
  • Experience supporting public facilities or special events.
  • Experience operating light-duty equipment and tools.
  • Knowledge of facility cleaning and maintenance practices.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and presentation of arena facilities.
  • Perform routine custodial duties including sweeping, mopping, disinfecting, waste collection, and replenishing supplies.
  • Complete inspections, cleaning schedules, and operational checklists.
  • Operate custodial tools and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Assist Arena Operators with daily arena operations and ice maintenance activities.
  • Support seasonal arena start-up and shutdown activities.
  • Set up and take down equipment for events, tournaments, rentals, and community programs.
  • Assist with snow and ice control, preventative maintenance, and facility readiness activities.
  • Provide courteous and professional service to user groups, contractors, and the public.
  • Support facility bookings, special events, and tournaments.
  • Respond to routine inquiries and escalate concerns as required.
  • Represent the Town of Devon in a positive and professional manner.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors, operators, contractors, and Town staff.
  • Communicate operational and maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Support departmental goals and operational improvements.
  • Assist other operational areas as required.
  • Identify and report hazards or unsafe conditions.
  • Follow Town policies, safe work procedures, and OH&S requirements.
  • Participate in safety meetings, inspections, training, and incident reporting.
  • Complete required safety documentation accurately and on time.

  • Annual earnings ranging from approximately $21,684 to $24,034, based on education, experience, qualifications, and scheduled hours.
