About The Position

The Laborer assists the Foreman and skilled craft workers with assigned duties under close supervision. This is usually an entry-level position and a first step toward learning a trade. The work includes manual and routine construction tasks, handling materials and tools, and assisting with pipe, concrete, asphalt, and earthwork activities. The role is performed outdoors in changing weather conditions and involves strenuous physical activity.

Requirements

• Less than a high school diploma.
• Valid driver's license.
• Must be able to drive.
• Ability to perform strenuous physical work and sufficient manual dexterity to reach and handle items, work with fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.

Responsibilities

• Dig, spread, and level dirt, sand, and gravel using a pick, shovel, or rake.
• Lift, carry, and hold construction materials, tools, and supplies.
• Clean tools, equipment, materials, and the work area.
• Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials using hand tools.
• Join, wrap, and seal sections of pipe.
• Perform routine non-machine tasks, such as removing forms, filling excavations, placing pipe sections in trenches, and assembling pipe sections.
• Perform machine-related tasks, such as tamping soil, jack hammering, and assisting with pipe fusing.
• Comply with safety policies, practices, and procedures, and report unsafe activities to a supervisor and/or Human Resources.
• Participate in team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
• Provide leadership through example and sharing knowledge and skills.
• Drive as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
