About The Position

Global Connections to Employment (GCE) is a nationwide team providing jobs for people with significant disabilities, including our war-wounded veterans. Working with customers from the U.S. military, commercial business and community partners – as well as federal, state and local governments – GCE is one of the country’s largest private employers of persons with disabilities. The Laborer is responsible for performing mainly physical laborer duties to support the Facilities Maintenance (FM) functions of the organization.

Requirements

  • Must be able to comprehend both written and/or verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to work overtime and be on call as required in support of FM operations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license in the state they reside, have a satisfactory driving record, and be insurable under the corporate policy.
  • Must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work assignment on the specified contract(s).
  • Must be able to pass organization screening requirements, including state or federal background screenings as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload trucks and other conveyances; move supplies and materials to the proper location by wheelbarrow or hand truck; stack materials for storage or binning; collect refuse and salvageable materials; and dig, fill, and tamp earth excavations.
  • Maintain lawns, shrubbery, flowers, and trees using power and hand mowers, lawn tractors, clippers, and hand tools. May apply fertilizer, insecticide, and fungicide to lawns, shrubbery, flowers, and trees as needed.
  • Level ground using a pick, shovel, tamper, or rake; shovel concrete; clean culverts and ditches; cut trees and brush; operate power lawnmowers; move and arrange heavy pieces of office and household furniture, equipment, and appliances; move machinery and equipment; and pick up leaves and trash.
  • Be responsible for maximizing existing resources to support departmental budget requirements.
  • Attend and successfully complete all mandatory training requirements.
  • Properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow safety guidelines
  • Perform duties required by the site-specific statement of work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
