About The Position

This position is responsible for semi-skilled work in a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair assignments involving the use of specialized tools and equipment within the Street Division. The employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville and meet the needs of the organization, which may result in the assignment of other duties and take precedence over duties described in this job description. Requirements

High School diploma or GED.
Six (6) months of experience in maintenance, repair, and/or construction work.
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license, or any valid driver’s license with ability to obtain a North Carolina driver’s license within 60 days of establishing a permanent residence in North Carolina.

Responsibilities

Performs a variety of heavy manual work in connection with the repair, maintenance, and construction within the street department.
Operates front end and deck mowers, turf tractors, backhoe, dump trucks, and jack hammer.
Assists in ground and building maintenance.
Cuts, trims, and removes limbs and other debris.
Maintains city streets by spreading salt and plowing snow, sealing concrete cracks, trimming trees and bushes, and painting lines on roads.
Completes work related to pouring, finishing, and working with concrete.
Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.
Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by checking equipment/tools after each use.
Assists with the installation of trench shoring equipment.
Follows all safety policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
