About The Position

Under the direction of the Director/Manager of Plant Operations, or their liaison, the labor person's duties and responsibilities, in day-to-day and/or emergent situations, require independent judgment and initiative based on general knowledge of the trades. This role involves maintaining the grounds of the Hospital complex, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly maintained according to department standards, and contributing to the safe operation of Plant Operations and Hospital standards and MIOSHA requirements by wearing all necessary safety equipment. The position also requires checking tools and equipment for proper functioning, performing basic repairs, cleaning and storing tools daily, and maintaining a clean and neat work area. The Laborer must fill out completed work orders and/or daily time sheets, monitor and maintain required supplies and tools, and notify management of needed supplies in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of relevant experience
  • 2 years of documented general maintenance experience in a 500,000 square foot commercial, industrial, or institutional facility.
  • Valid State of Michigan Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the grounds of the Hospital complex.
  • Make daily rounds of all ground parking lots, parking structures, entrances, sidewalks, fence lines, and driveways in assigned areas.
  • Sweep and wash the grounds, water the lawn and plants.
  • Empty and pick up trash.
  • Clean all exterior trash receptacles, mailboxes, newspaper stands, picnic benches, tables, etc.
  • Perform winter season maintenance of walks, steps, entrances, and drives.
  • Assist in moving beds and furniture.
  • Assist in cleaning of Machine Rooms and weather masters.
  • Assist to clean and remove trash from project/construction areas.
  • Assist in other areas of Department during inclement weather.
  • Remove trash from building to compactor daily.
  • Sweep and wash compactor and trash room daily.
  • Install and maintain dust barrier when performing job duties.
  • Maintain all tools and equipment properly, according to department standards.
  • Contribute to the safe operation of Plant Operations and Hospital standards and MIOSHA requirements by wearing all safety equipment necessary for the specific job.
  • Check tools and equipment for proper functioning prior to using them and perform basic repair when necessary.
  • Clean and store tools each day according to department standards.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and neat manner prior to the end of each shift.
  • Promote a professional image by adhering to dress code.
  • Fill out completed work orders and/or daily time sheets and turn them in on a daily basis.
  • Monitor and maintain required supplies and tools in a neat and orderly fashion ensuring that proper inventory is maintained, tools are functioning properly and readily accessible and that the work/production areas are in a clean and neat manner.
  • Notify management of needed supplies in a timely manner by filling out material request forms.
