About The Position

Under the general supervision of an Assistant Superintendent of Parks and a Leadworker (or other higher classified employees), the Laborer performs a wide variety of manual tasks in the maintenance and cleaning of City parks, fields and other property owned by the City. Duties include sweeping, cutting grass and brush, shoveling snow, emptying trash barrels. This is a part-time position with employment ending at the conclusion of the parks maintenance season.

Requirements

• Must provide a BCI (Background Criminal Investigation).
• Must pass a physical and/or drug screening.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to keep routine records.
• Proficiency in the use of hand tools.
• Ability to perform manual tasks under close and general supervision.
• Ability to perform light and heavy manual labor.
• Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team to accomplish tasks.

Responsibilities

• Cutting grass, raking fields, weed whacking.
• Emptying trash barrels and picking up debris in parks.
• Maintaining athletic fields, painting field lines, opening and closing lights, unlocking gates, replacing basketball nets, and pumping fields after inclement weather.
• Performs work for all areas of cultivation including but not limited to, aeration, seeding, fertilization, top dressing, raking, thatching.
• Providing general maintenance of City property.
• May be assigned to any area/division of the Department of Public Works as needed.
• Performing related duties as required.
